What we make
RUQYAH is a London womenswear label with one subject: ankle-length modest clothing. We draft our own blocks in nine UK sizes, buy woven crepe, lyocell twill, washed linen, cotton poplin and dense modal jersey by the roll, and cut, sew, press and pack in the same room. The range is deliberately narrow — abayas and robes, long dresses, longline tunics and kaftan overtops, wide-leg trouser sets, shawls and headscarves — and the palette is narrower still: concrete greys and warm rusts that sit together without effort. Nothing is sheer in daylight, nothing needs an extra layer to be wearable, and every hem is drafted to clear the floor rather than sweep it.
How we work
We start from length. A floor-length garment shows every mistake in grain, weight and hem, so we cut single-layer, we let cloth relax on the table before the shears go near it, and we hang each finished piece for a day before folding. Cloth is chosen for drape before colour: we test how a roll swings from a shoulder rail before we buy it. Once a series is cut, it is checked panel by panel, pressed on a wide roller, and put on the shelf ready to post. Because everything is finished before it goes online, what you see in stock is genuinely in the building.
